Compatitive Strategy and Innovation Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2750 words
Compatitive Strategy and Innovation - Case Study Example So what made them so different from the rest in the corporate jungle to bring about rather such exquisite products or service offerings that consumers lapped up them in time The answer well lies in the fact that these guys are not only great entrepreneurs, techno honchos, and brilliant chaps but rather they always understood that to stay ahead in the rat race of corporate tussle; you have to keep a tab on the pulse of the consumers. The key always lies among them. Again a different perspective can very well be that these guys were great practioners of marketing principles and understood the 4Ps' of Marketing very well enough to always come up with great products and services which mapped the consumer needs so well that today they are all in the list of Forbes 500. These people could create an idea which held the attention of millions together and then they had the brilliance to turn the attention into a long term association and loyal purchase. Apart from corporate and organizations, we also certainly can't ignore the everyday innovations we make in our daily lives, from mending a simple broken cigarette to finding ways how to make life simpler by implementing certain simple and unthought-of of innovative ideas and processes which actually makes life simpler and smoother. On the whole what I am trying to say is that innovation can be brought about by virtually anybody at any place and at any point of time, but to commercialize it one necessarily needs to take the corporate route. So let's see and understand how certain key players in our society have unraveled innovations to make life simpler and technologically progressive. To take a prime example we'll concentrate on Mr. Steve Jobs the CEO for Apple Inc. He along with Steve Wozniak started Apple Computers in their garage in 1976. From their onwards to revolutionizing the computer world with iMacs' and the music industry with his concepts in music download i.e iTunes' and iPod. We have seen a man change from being extremely bull headed to becoming one of the foremost leaders of the 21st century. From getting ousted from Apple to starting up NEXT and Pixar Animations, this is one person who has learnt from his own mistakes and has decided to take Apple to newer heights and as once envisioned as a youn g entrepreneur. When Steve Jobs was ousted from Apple Inc, it was pretty well known as to why he was removed from his post as Chairman. His overbearing and prejudiced management style and constant conflict with then CEO John Sculley (Steve Jobs Transforms Apple), as result by the time he left it was assumed that Apple was in good hands now. But the company may have had taken the decision in haste as it had removed one person from the organization whose core skills lay in product innovation. As a result when he joined back again in 1997 it was very well known that the organization needed some new product offerings apart from iMac Slim and its desktop variants. As a result by 2005 he had come

IP addressing scenario Essay Example for Free
IP addressing scenario Essay According to the scenario, the company will have a single, physical location with approximately145 hosts on the network. In this case, I would suggest using a class C address such as 192. 168. 0. 0. Reason why is because you can put all the devices on a single subnet with the subnet mask 255. 255. 255. 0/24. This would allow for 253 usable host addresses, which is more than needed in this case. Whether you should dynamically or statically assign those IPââ¬â¢s goes, I suggest assigning it dynamically. Unless you donââ¬â¢t mind MANUALLY managing 218 hosts, you should definitely go with DHCP. The router will be well capable of handing out addresses for 145 hosts. Since there is only one location used in this case, only one network should be used as it will only complicate things to have more than one network. Since DHCP is being used as the suggestion, whether we should use a router and/or firewall, or utilizing Windows Serverâ⬠¦the answer is yes. The router for dishing out the IP addresses and the firewall should be used for security purposes. Using Windows Server just for DHCP is rather overkill. Using these suggested methods should also accommodate for at least 50% growth within the next few years. Windows 2008 Network Services To understand the functions of DNS and DHCP, first we must acknowledge their necessities. Humans in general are fairly decent at remembering certain numbers, like home addresses, phone numbers, and Social Securities. And even those simple tasks are becoming difficult for us because of technology doing all the remembering for us. We are becoming lazier and more dependent on computers. If we canââ¬â¢t even do these menial tasks efficiently, how would you expect us to remember dozens of IP addresses for websites? This brings to a solution. Also known as name resolution, it allows us to enter the name of a website, and then the resolution service finds the IP address for that website and directs the request to that address. Domain Name System is the service that provides name resolution on networks and the Internet. When you specify a site address in your browser on your local network, a DNS server intercepts that request and checks its cache. If the IP address is in the cache from a previous request, the request is completed and your browser is directed to the IP address. If the address is not in the cache, DNS makes a query to the next DNS server above it until a server in the upstream chain is able to return the address. Dynamic Host Control Protocol is a service that automatically assigns IP addresses to devices that connect to the network. If a device is configured to automatically obtain an IP address, it sends out a request for an IP address when it connects to a network. The request may get more than one offer of an IP address, and the computer typically accepts the first offer that it gets. This relieves the network administrator of having to manage each device. Setting up a DHCP is really not necessary for either 2 computers even 5 computers as you could easily assign them statically. However, when it comes to managing 25 computers, I would absolutely assign it DHCP as it may become confusing have to track that many different devices.

Introduction to Field Effect Transistor
Introduction to Field Effect Transistor To sir Mateen Yaqoob Group Members Maira Naseer Aqsa Mahmood The University of Lahore Sargodha, Pakistan Introduction to Field Effect Transistor Transistor: The word transistor is the short form of transforming resistor. Transistor is the special kind of resistor. Resistor whose value changes, based on the input signal, and the resistor changes is transformative. DEFINITION OF FIELD EFFECT TRANSISTOR: The field effect transistor is a transistor which control the shape by using field effect transistor Field effect transistor (FET): In 1926 julius Edgar Lilienfeld was first patented the field-effect transistor and by Oskar Heil in 1934. But transistor effect was explained and oberserved by the team of william shockley at Bell labs in 1947 after it practical semiconductor were developed. The field effect transistor and the PN junction: The behavior of the field effect transistor hinges on the behaviour of a PN junction that is reverse biased. semiconductoris a material that is not a good conductor and not a good insulator but that when heat, light or voltage is added it conduct more electricity. which has two type ââ¬ËP type ââ¬Ëand ââ¬ËN typeââ¬â¢. P type and N type material: From type p material that has abundance of positive carriers, we called them holes to the type N material that has abundance of negative carriers, we called them electrons. By the way itââ¬â¢s not that the P material is positively charged and N material is negatively charged ,they both are electricallyneutral. The difference is that the p material has free to move positive carriers and N material free to move negative carriers. PN Junction: Formally we put P type and N type together and we form one we called PN junction. The PN junction was found to very interesting electric properties. It allowed to current to flow from p to n and when blocked current they try to move backward. Forward biased p-n junction: Now look at how p-n junction works when we try to pass current forward trade from p to n. We apply voltage source across a p-n junction such that p-side is positive and n-side is negative ,then this voltage source tries to get current into the p material which effectively means that it pulling out electrons out of the left of p material and by doing that its creating new holes of the left side of the material which increasing the density of holes on the left side of the p material. That source at the same time is pulling current from the right of the n material which is equivalent to saying it to feeding new electrons into the right of the n material which increasing the density of free electrons on the right side of the n material. Observe there is high density holes on the left of the p material and there is high density of electrons on the right of the n material. Is that the gradient of density will move holes towards the right and electrons to the left and they will joining in the center and recombine and disappear. The motion of the holes is facilitated by electric field created by external source. This is the way the p-n junction operates when it forward biased and this process is continuous forever. Reverse biased p-n junction: Now look at how p-n junction works when we try to pass current reverse biased from n to p. We apply voltage source across a p-n junction such that the negative terminal is connected at the p side and positive terminal is connected at the n-side ,then this voltage source tries to take current out of the p material which effectively means that it tries to feed electrons on the left of the p material, if we do that those electron are recombine with some of holes on the left of the p material and the density of holes will decreasing on the left side of the p material and holes disappears. That source at the same time is feed current into the n material and take electrons out of the n material which decreases the density of electrons on left side of the n material. Is that the difference of density in holes and electrons will gap the holes and electrons move away from the junction to even over the density of carries in p-n material when they do that is an uncovering some of the fixed charges near junction creating a region that is depleted of free charges so there is no carrier s in this zone and this is a region that is stationary charges, negative on the p side and positive on the n side and these stationary charges stop the flow of current. Basic information of FETââ¬â¢s : Field effect transistor is the majority-charge-carrier devices, in which the current is carried mostly by majority carriers, or minority-charge-carrier devices. The field effect device consists of an active channel through which charge carriers flow from the source to the drain. Source and drain terminal conductors are connected to the semiconductor. The FETs three terminals are Source (S): Source S is the terminal through which the carriers enter the channel. usually, current entering the channel at S is identify by IS. Drain (D): Drain D is the terminal through which the carriers leave the channel. usually, current entering the channel at D is identify by ID and drain to source voltage is named as VDS Gate (G): Gate G is the terminal which set the channel conductivity.when voltage is apply on gate G it control the ID. Type of FETââ¬â¢S: Junction field effect transistor (JFETââ¬â¢S): P type material and n type material is good conductor by themselves.so itââ¬â¢s possible to place two terminals on say the n material and get electrons to flow through a one end terminal to the other just like a wire and this is the basic junction field effect transistor. Electron flow through the n type region of p-n device from one terminal to the other and the name of this n region is the channel. The channel input is called the source and the channel output is called the drain. AND electrons flow from source to drain. The p type region of this device is called a gate. When there is no voltage applied to the gate electrons are completely free to flow to the channel so the source drain resistance is pretty much is zero ohms. When the JFETs is in this state we say itââ¬â¢s saturated, the channel electrons density is maximum. However, when you reverse biased a gate an interesting thing happens. Reverse biased in the p-n junction causes a depletion region to appear just did in a diode and part of p and n material is convert back to being in insulator but now that depletion region causes the physical with the n channel to become narrow so less electron flow through the channel which rises resistance of the channel . As we increase the negative voltage at the gate, the n channel become even more narrow and channel resistance rises further. If we increase voltage even further at some point the depletion will completely blocked the n channel, no current can flow across a channel and channel resistance is virtually infinite. At this point we say that the fact is cut off .Many also say that it is pinched off and the gate voltage pinched off the channel called the pinched off the voltage is around -4 volts. So this is how fact works, the reverse biased voltage of the gate causes channel resistance between source and drain to increase and it goes to infinite resistance at the pinched off voltage. Itââ¬â¢s possible to have channel made of p material instead of n material and we have a gate made of n material instead of p material. This is called a p channel JFET and it works exactly as the same way n channel JFET does accept the polarity are reversed .Electrons still flow from source to drain but this time the gate is reversed biased with positive voltage control in the channel resistance. Difference between BJT and FET. BIPOLAR JUNCTION TRANSISTOR: The full form of BJT is Bipolar Junction Transistor. The BJT is a current-controlled device since its output is determined on the input current. The basic construction of a BJT is two PN junctions producing three terminals. Bipolar junction transistor is high voltage gain. Bipolar junction transistor is Low input impedance. Bipolar junction transistor is low output impedance. Bipolar junction transistor is low input impedance. Bipolar junction transistor is medium nose generation. Bipolar junction transistor have medium switching time. Bipolar junction transistor requires zero input to turn off. Bipolar junction transistor is cheap. Bipolar junction transistor is easy to bias. FIELD EFFECT TRANSISTOR: The full form of FET is Field Effect Transistor. Field effect transistor is a voltage-controlled device, due to its dependence on the field effect of the applied voltage. The field effect transistor construction does not have a PN junction in its main current carrying. Field effect transistor Is low voltage gain. Field effect transistor is high current gain. Field effect transistor is high input impedance. Field effect transistor is high output impedance. Field effect transistor is low noise generation. Field effect transistor has fast switching time. Field effect transistor requires some input to turn off. Field effect transistor is more expensive than BIPOLAR. Field effect transistor is difficult to bias. Advantages of FET: 1: Field effect transistor is high input resistance which is 100 Mà © or more. 2:Field effect transistor is voltage-controlled device, and it show a high degree of separation between input and output. 3:Field effect transistor is depend on majority current flow and it is a unipolar device. 2: With shaping time base current will increase noise, and field effect transistor produce less noise as compare to bipolar junction and it is found in noise sensitive electronics. Disadvantages of FET: 1: field effect transistor has low gain-bandwidth product as compared to a bipolar junction transistor. 2:. When reisitance is ââ¬Å"onâ⬠field effect transistor is low and when resistance is ââ¬Å"offâ⬠field effect transistor is high and field effect transistor can vanish large amount of power during switching. Uses of FET: 1:.MOSFET is the most commonly used in field effect transistor 2: Field effect transistor used as an amplifier ,because it has large input resistance and low output resistance. FETS effective as a buffer. Page 1 of 9

History of the Internet :: Computer Network
A Free Net The Internet has revolutionized the communication world in unprecedented ways. It allows worldwide broadcasting, global distribution of information, and it is a medium for the interaction and communication of individuals without regard for geographic location. Thirty years ago, America?s principal Cold War think-tank, the RAND Corporation, faced a strategic dilemma: how could the United States authorities successfully communicate after a nuclear war? The solution was a network of individual nodes, computer units that would send and receive information in a random manner. If one area of nodes were destroyed the message would bounce between the others. After the Cold War ended, and the threat of nuclear war subsided, the potential for this ?internet? was realized. Of course, in the beginning, it was small and difficult to make use of, but as more corporations and different social groups began to possess powerful computers, the network grew and became more useful. As with the growth of fax machines in the early 1990?s, the Internet was only practical if someone else had one to communicate with. Today, the Internet has moved out of its original base in the military and research institutions and into schools and learning centers, public libraries and commercial sectors. It is now a vast system of millions of computers, not only corporate and military, but personal as well. The Internet can be used for the purpose of gathering information and communicating. The Internet enables users to surpass the distance barrier and Page 2 communicate with anyone on the face of the planet, provided that they have access to a computer. According to recent research, the world?s Internet population is only expanding. By the year 2002, it is estimated that 490 million people will have Internet access. At the end of this year, the United States will have 135.7 million users - that?s 36.2% of the total world users (CyberAtlas). Lately there has been another addition to the usefulness of the Internet, the sales of products and services. These transactions are known as e-commerce, the ?e? standing for electronic. In 1998 a three-year moratorium banned the taxing of Internet use and on- line spending. Currently, a new law is looking to extend this ban another five years. There are currently 7,500 state and local tax systems throughout the United States. These numbers could be significantly increased if state and local governments were able to tax e-commerce. On-line businesses would be buried in costly paperwork trying to meet the terms of conflicting tax clauses. Under the current system, it is difficult to determine the locality from which an order was placed and it is unclear where an Internet

The Effects of Smoking Cigarettes Essay -- Cause Effect Research Ciga
The Effects of Smoking Introduction à à à à à Smoking cigarettes damage the body in a number of different ways. Over several years, the American Council on Science and Health and many others have documented the effects of smoking. Everyone knows that it is bad for you, but not many know how it affects the body. There are many myths about smoking, which mainly occur with all of the teens that are smoking. Most teens donââ¬â¢t know that the effects of smoking are mostly permanent. They think that they can smoke for a few years and then quit without suffering any long-term effects. This is most worrying to me, because the recent finding, reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), claims that teen smoking rates have increased by nearly a third within the last six years. Teen smokers who believe that all of the health hazards will go away when they quit, usually have an ââ¬Å"I can always quit tomorrow, or the next week, month or yearâ⬠mentality. They feel as if they can walk away from smoking with no long term effects, which couldnââ¬â¢t be further from the truth. The quitting success rates of teenagers is also very low. Less than 16% of the 633 teen smokers in a study were able to kick the habit. Most teens report that they want to quit but are unable to do so, says the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Teen smokers quickly become addicted to nicotine and when trying to fight the addiction, experience high relapse and withdrawal symptoms. Of the 46 million smokers in the United States, 34 percent try to quit each year, but less than 10 percent succeed. Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. It accounts for almost 500,000 deaths per year, or one in every five deaths. Smoking also contributes to a breathtaking amount of diseases which includes coronary heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, peripheral vascular disease, peptic ulcer disease, and many types of cancer. Irreversible Health Effects à à à à à With smoking, the reversibility of health effects is influenced by many factors. For one, the amount of smoking exposure (number of cigarettes per day and the duration of smoking). The presence of other diseases already in the body, genetics and even nutritional factors enter into the equation. Quitting brings benefits no matter what age. It is a fact that quitting prolong... ...se and disability. Smokers should not believe that they can smoke safely for 10-15 years, then become of the lucky few who do quit, and then believe that they are healthy and risk free, as if they had never smoked at all. Theyââ¬â¢re at risk for many irreversible diseases and health issues. The next time someone asks you if you want to ââ¬Å"light up,â⬠remember: Only 20% of smokers who try to quit are successful on a long term basis; for every four of those who take up smoking, the very decision to begin itself is irreversible. I Have the Moral Character to be a Teacher :: Teaching Education Essays
I Have the Moral Character to be a Teacher I was inspired to become a teacher for many reasons. Teaching will be a self-fulfilling career. It would give me the opportunity to help my community and have a moral and ethical impact on the students of this area. Also, I desire to be with my children as much as possible, and a teaching profession fits that mold. A teaching profession would be rewarding because it would allow me to fulfill many personal goals, including working with the youth of the area and spending time with my family. For many years I have volunteered with the Boys Scouts of America. Doing this is one of my passions, but recent jobs I have had did not allowed much time for volunteering. A teacherââ¬â¢s schedule would allow me to be able to serve this organization by volunteering as an Aquatics Instructor, teaching life-saving skills. My other passion is my family. Spending time with my children is the best way to create life-long memories. However, it is difficult to spend time with my family and scho ol-age children when our schedules are not alike. As a teacher, I would be able to spend more quality time with my children and help them after school with homework. In addition to meeting these personal goals, teaching would allow me to reach out to area students and help them build character and acquire knowledge. The classroom is a complex society. In each room, there must be an atmosphere in which students of all backgrounds can learn. By being a constructivist one can combine the elements of essentialism, progressivism, behaviorism, perennialism, and existentialism to form a successful teaching philosophy and therefore a successful classroom. Below, I will discuss how these ideas can be combined for success. As essentialism states, the teacher needs to have control in the instruction of the classroom. Lecturing and supervising the improvement of skills are great ways to teach materials. A case in point here shows one of the teaching fundamentals, of the core subjects reading, writing, math, and nature sciences. This give s you the intellectual discipline to solve problems that involve complex ideas. In progressivism, students have more of a democratic voice in the learning process. Although the teacher will be the facilitator of the process, by using a cooperative learning activity the students are designing there own education and are guided in a direction by the teacher.

A Rose for Emily: Emily as a Tradition, a Duty and a Care Essay
Emily Grierson is the title character in the short story ââ¬Å"A Rose for Emily.â⬠The narrator portrays Emily as a ââ¬Å"tradition, a duty, and a care,â⬠(Faulkner,79) but in her actions, it is obvious that Emily is a true outsider. She shuts out the townspeople, only allowing them to see certain aspects of herself and leaves them to speculate the rest. She lives with her father until his death. Any chance at love for Emily was denied due to her father driving potential men away so that he could have her all to himself. Having been sheltered and secluded by her father, she continues to lead that kind of lifestyle after his death. Miss Emilyââ¬â¢s home fits in with her character. Both are dark and mysterious. Emily rarely lets people into her life to see the real her so she remains dark and mysterious. Her home is also closed off to the townspeople. She rarely allows people into her home, and those that do find it layered with dust. The house is also falling into decay which also coincides with Emilyââ¬â¢s aging and bloated and pallid appearance. It is clear that Mr. Grierson was extremely controlling of Emily. He showed this in his attempt to drive potential suitors away. After his death, Emily attempts to take control by denying that he has passed and refusing to give up his body. Before they can resort to using the law to take his body, Emily finally gives in and releases the body to them so that he can be buried properly. The townspeople are not surprised by her actions. They felt it was something she needed to do because she had nothing left, so she had to cling to the one thing she did have, and that was her father. Miss Emily follows her own rules. She does not abide by the law like everyone else. A deal had been made that she didnââ¬â¢t owe any taxes. Colonel Sartoris told her it was because her father had loaned the town money and therefore the taxes were remitted. When a new generation took over and sent her a bill, she either ignored it or sent back the bill with a note. When they came to her home to talk to her about it, she still adamantly refused to pay the bill, telling them she owed none and to speak to Colonel Sartoris about it. Even though the Colonel had been dead for ten years and there was nothing in the books to show that the taxes were remitted, she refused to accept the new authorities and has them shown out. She also refuses to put numbers on her mailbox when federal mail is put into place and in stating why she is buying the poison. No one ever pushes her and forces her to follow the law, it is as if they are afraid to question her or just ignore her eccentricity. They even refused to bring the multiple complaints of a bad smell to her attention and instead snuck into her yard at night, breaking open the cellar door to sprinkle lime in there as well as in all the outbuildings. No one wanted to ââ¬Å"botherâ⬠Miss Emily. Eventually a man named Homer Barron comes to town. He begins to spend time with Miss Emily. At first the townspeople are happy that someone has piqued her interest. Many thought that they would eventually marry, even though Homer states that he is not the marrying kind. Many feel that she will find a way to persuade him to marry even though it seems as though he is interested in men. Eventually, the townspeople all believe that they will soon be married because of items that Emily buys for Homer. Homer leaves at one point while Miss Emily has family visiting. The townspeople see him return, but it is the last they see of him. This is when Emilyââ¬â¢s failure to follow the law takes a turn. She was never questioned on why she needed the arsenic. It of course gets around town that she has purchased it, and they all believe she will kill herself. Even though Homer is never seen again and even though her home is mainly closed up until her death, except for the few years she teaches china painting, no one ever thinks that the arsenic is being used in a more sinister way. After Miss Emilyââ¬â¢s death, the townspeople come to pay their respects. The men do so more out of respect while the women are more interested in seeing her home after all these years. It is soon discovered that Homer Barronââ¬â¢s dead body is lying in a bed in one of the rooms. Next to his body, on the pillow, it is clear that Miss Emily has spent time laying there beside him. It is clear that Miss Emily couldnââ¬â¢t bear the thought of Homer abandoning her, so she poisoned him so that she would always have him with her. She clung to him just as she had her father, but this time she found a way to make sure Homer would not be removed from her home. No one ever calls Miss Emily crazy, even though she had a great aunt that had gone crazy. All her actions are just thought of as part of her eccentric ways. No one thinks to question her or what she does. It is clear that Emily is suffering from some sort of mental illness. She clearly shows she has abandonment issues after being sheltered by her father. She refuses to accept or reveal his death until forced to do so. It is also clear in her actions of poisoning Homer Barron. After her fatherââ¬â¢s death, the narrator states that ââ¬Å"she was sick for a long time after that.â⬠It seems as if maybe she had some sort of mental breakdown after she is left alone. If only her father hadnââ¬â¢t sheltered her so much and refused to allow her to find love and seek friendship, she would not have acted in such desperate ways. If she could have gotten help to get over her fears or was able to talk to someone about it, maybe Homer would not have been poisoned. Although her actions and the outcome were tragic, in a way you have to feel bad for her because she was following the example that her father set for her. He desperately clung to her and in turn, she desperately clung to the men she cared for.
